Spend a day or the weekend having old fashioned fun with your family. Sycamore Springs Park is a throwback to family fun in the good old days with the amenities of a modern RV park.

The kids had an unexpected long weekend in mid-April. Local theme parks aren't open yet, so we headed to English, Indiana for some old-fashioned fun. Our goal was to master the campfire and open fire cooking!

“Sycamore Springs Park in English, Indiana offers numerous playgrounds, creekside campsites, scenic hiking, full RV hookups and more!"

We stumbled upon this campground last year early on in the pandemic as it is privately owned and received excellent reviews! We ventured back in 2021 and were again impressed by the cleanliness and serenity of the park.

Numerous Playgrounds

Our sons weren't able to play on the playsets last year due to pandemic restrictions, so they were ecstatic to try out ALL of the playgounds this time. There are nearly 40 play areas on the property and there is a playground within view of each campsite. Most playgrounds seem appropriate for ages 4 to12, but they even have a toddler playground with tiny playground equipment located close to the high bridge trailhead.

Campsites

Sycamore Springs Park offers tent, RV electric/water, and full-hookup RV sites. The basic RV sites are creekside. They don't have sewer hookup, but do have a view of the Little Blue River. We prefer the ease of full utilities and have stayed in the Whitsitt Woods area with a view of the children's biking area and barn. Martha's Vineyard is the newest addition of full hookup sites with some pull through sites available for larger rigs and a view of Deer Lake.

If you aren't a camper, Sycamore Springs has multiple pavilions available for day use. This would be a great place for family gatherings or parties. There is even a quaint chapel for weddings or ceremonies.

Campfires

Complimentary firewood is one perk of staying at Sycamore Springs Park. There is a main woodshed on property. The owners disperse firewood in piles to each campsite section. These piles are re-supplied on Mondays and Fridays ensuring a close supply near your campsite. The firewood was of good quality and burns hot making it perfect for open fire cast iron cooking. We had great success making corn chowder, gumbo, and peach cobbler.

Serenity

English, Indiana is a small town in the Southern part of the state not far off Interstate 64. Although convenient to the interstate, Sycamore Springs is a very quiet campground. Campground sites are located in a valley of the property and you are surrounded by the forested hills of the nearby Hoosier National Forest. The campground rules require quiet hours from 8:30 PM on weekdays and 9:00 PM on weekends until 8 AM the next morning ensuring peaceful rest.

Extras

Sycamore Springs Park also offers a small biking area for children. Our boys enjoyed biking up and over the mounds of dirt over and over again. This is a great challenge for new bike riders and something our guys can't do in our neighborhood at home. We also ventured over to the barnyard to watch the donkey and goats on property.

In addition, we enjoyed hiking the trails this park has to offer. The High Bridge Trail offers the best views and is rugged but manageable for kids (and parents!) who are used to hiking. On our last visit, we also hiked Teddy's Trail along with the High Bridge Trail for a great morning workout.

We highly recommend Sycamore Springs Park for a day outing or a weekend of quiet camping. It's a great place to enjoy the serenity of a hike in the woods or the simplicity of roasting marshmallows. This time we most enjoyed giving our kids freedom to explore the outdoors and the experience of cooking over an open fire together.

If you and your family are interested in heading to Sycamore Springs Park, take our advice and avoid using the Waze app as it attempts to send you into the backside of the park across a very low and narrow concrete bridge (especially harrowing while towing a trailer)! Instead, follow the directions below.

To Sycamore Springs Park:

Interstate 64 to Indiana 37 North, Right on State Road 64 (approximately 5 miles), Right on Tunnel Hill road (approximately 3 miles) to Sycamore Springs entrance on the right.

Happy Camping!
